About My Challenge

I've been following the research on cognitive performance and it seems the factor that most contributes to neuro-plasticity (the development of new neurons and new connections between neurons) is resistance training. This includes the use of bowflex, pneumatic resistance systems, weight machines, free weights, or just good old-fashioned pushups. It appears that exercise is more beneficial in this regard than mental exercises like puzzles, games and playing an instrument.

Speaking as an IT professional, my brain is important to me :-) For this reason, I purchased a full set of free weights during Covid when the gyms were closed, and I use it 5 days a week. This helps me maximize my performance in the areas of memory formation, recall and learning. These are all great indicators of mental health!

I'll be incorporating my regular exercise routine into this challenge, following the Alternate Exercise Guide. I'm excited to build on my current fitness level in support of the Push-Up Challenge and the Canadian Mental Health Association!
